Tara Abrahams

Tara Abrahams is the head of impact at The Meteor, a multi-media collective which uses the power of storytelling, journalism, and art to advance one of the greatest causes of our time: the freedom and dignity of all women. Tara is also the board chair of She’s the First, a global girls’ rights organization that reaches 150,000 girls around the world annually, and of the International Center for Research on Women,the world’s premier research institute focused on tackling challenges facing women and girls worldwide. In 2021, Tara founded kahani, a print magazine and media platform specifically designed to amplify the stories of adolescent girls around theworld.

Tara began her work in girls’ education and women’s empowerment at Girl Rising, a global movement and feature film that raised awareness about the importance of educating girls in the developing world. Tara has also served as founding director of the Maverick Capital Foundation, a strategy consultant at The Bridgespan Group, and a managing director at Acelero Learning. She has advised a variety of leading girls and women focused initiatives, from Girls Who Code and VOW to End Child Marriage to The Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance, founded by former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Tara was recently named to Apolitical’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy and to the 2022 class of Presidential Leadership Scholars.
