Jackson Otieno

Jackson is a program manager at Co-Impact based out of Nairobi, Kenya. He supports Co-Impact’s sourcing and vetting of new grants in Africa.

Prior to joining Co-Impact, he served with UHAI EASHRI – an indigenous activist fund supporting the struggle for the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) and sex worker Africans across the continent – as Program Officer. His role was focused on leading participatory grant making processes serving sexual and gender minority and sex worker activist-led organizing in Eastern Africa.

Previously, Jackson served with the Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya (GALCK). As Program Officer, he managed the coalition’s work on #Repeal162 campaign on the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Kenya including litigation; community security preparedness; civic education and social advocacy and other direct advocacy initiatives.

Jackson has also worked with Hivos East Africa as a Junior Program Officer supporting the management and implementation of the rights and citizenship programme. This included freedom and accountability, women’s empowerment, sexual rights, and diversity.

Jackson brings years of hands-on experience supporting sexual and gender minorities rights movements.

Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies at the University of Nairobi.
