Director and US Lead, Philanthropic Collaboration
Prior to joining Co–Impact, Yasmin served as the Private Sector Lead at ThinkWell and was responsible for strategy and technical support to the private sector portfolio of projects. Her role was focused on designing public–private partnerships for health systems strengthening and sustainable health financing. As the Private Sector Lead, Yasmin provided advisory services to pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, trade associations and private providers to transform existing business models from transactional interactions to systems–level engagement and sustainable solutions. She helped build the ThinkWell’s incubator model and internal capacity to nurture promising social enterprises for double–bottom line of impact and sustainability. This included capacity building to provide business strategy support, financial management and revenue diversification approaches, and use of innovative approaches like design thinking and prototyping to enhance the current business and sustainability models.
Yasmin brings years of hands–on experience leading strategy development and program implementation for range of health programs, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, reproductive health and family planning, child health, sanitation and non–communicable diseases. Through these basic health services and as a result of her lived experience across different contexts in the Global South, Yasmin brings deep understanding of structural gender barriers that prevent systems from functioning effectively for women and girls. Yasmin recognize the importance of acknowledging the limitations experienced by women and girls in exercising agency and influence over decisions that get made for them. Through her own journey as a woman leader, Yasmin has learnt the importance of enabling conditions and mentors and aims to reinforce gender as a foundational element of systems change.
Previously, Yasmin has held several senior leadership positions at PSI and managed large country programs supporting diverse teams of cross–cultural and cross–functional experts. She has lived and worked in different social and political contexts in Zimbabwe, Vietnam and Cambodia. As the Senior Country Representative, Yasmin led the strategic vision and implementation of an institutional development process to transition PSI’s international organization status to a locally governed and locally managed Cambodian organization. She has also worked in over 30 countries and helped nurture strong partnerships with non–government agencies, social and private sectors and all levels of government. She has fund–raising experience and field–acquired knowledge of broad range of donors, private sector companies, foundations and international agencies. In her last role as Global Marketing Director for PSI, Yasmin led an organization–wide strategic initiative to re–define PSI’s operating model to include systems approach to market development in response to the evolving needs of beneficiaries, countries and financing agencies. Yasmin built and led a global and regional team of technical experts across Social Behavior Change, Market Dynamics, and Social Enterprise to enhance PSI’s social marketing and social franchising approaches.
Yasmin holds a master’s degree in Visual and Media arts, a master’s degree in Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Economics. She speaks English and 2 Indian languages (Hindi and Marathi). She resides with her partner in the Washington, D.C. area.
