Our Own Justices
In Mexico, too many women still face significant barriers to achieving justice and living without violence. The Equis initiative focuses on addressing discrimination within Mexico’s judicial system, targeting key institutions such as judicial powers, justice centers for women, and social reintegration authorities. By employing participatory methodologies that engage women’s networks and state representatives, the initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of the systemic factors leading to higher incarceration rates among women.
Notably, Equis has developed a unique methodology, in collaboration with formerly incarcerated women, for analyzing judicial processes through a gender and intersectionality lens, which is crucial for driving effective training for judges on gender-sensitive rulings.
