Advancing Gender-Equitable Community-Led Health Systems
Lwala Community Alliance aims to transform primary healthcare in Kenya, reaching over 20 million people with community-led, gender-equitable services. The initiative empowers women in maternal and reproductive health decisions, professionalizes Community Health Workers (CHWs), and ensures gender-inclusive health leadership and well-equipped facilities.
Targeting reductions in maternal and under-five mortality and increased access to non-discriminatory care for women and girls with disabilities, the initiative already delivers community-led health for 2.8 million people. Lwala advances community-led health in policy and practice, bridging the gap between communities and policymakers to develop curricula used to train CHWs and facility-based providers across the country, strengthen data systems to improve decision-making, and elevate CHWs and community members at policymaking tables.
